Foreword

Emotions on display design competition was organised by archiol competitions asking architecture enthusiasts to submit designs for a museum that helps to understand the impact of different architectural spaces on the human mind. This design competition received 174 entries from around the world.

"The playful layout proposes a unique journey designed to take the visitor through a plethora of emotional and psychological states. Despite its industrial feel, both in terms of plan and materiality, the 'clean' spaces created could overwhelm with their apparent simplicity, making a strong impression on the psyche."

"What initially appears to be an amalgamation of forms into which the eye would barely penetrate, even a body, proves to be an extremely welcoming and overwhelming space - it is an extremely 'human' idea, capturing the complexity of emotions that never assume a simple relationship - why would they find their place in a simple space?"

"Using the plot of film as the influence for an architectural form is very interesting // and so is designing in non-gravity // however your design seems to follow an unclear logic which is hard to follow // how did you make your specific design decisions?

Graphically interesting geometries but your presentation does not allow this to shine through and feels too complicated - emphasise the strong graphics of your design."

It was difficult to understand how the proposed space is a breakaway from the tense metropolitan life with equally massive forms being proposed as spaces to escape from the stressful metropolitan lifestyle and emotions. "What I’m reading to be the core idea - Ephemeral, abstract, resembling a labyrinth from Eden – is a great manner to deciphering the brief. Even if rich in sensorial environments and experiences, the symmetry and repetition of the corner module might cut short the curiosity and chance encounter needed in such environment. One might wonder if a degree of transformation from straightness, orthogonal shapes to more undulating shapes could mitigate and enhance the surprise of ‘what is around the corner’. "

"I love your photomontage work // unfortunately your understanding of modular design and the golden ratio is a little naïve // a vast monumental structure is very interesting but its unclear why it must be so vast and concrete?"
